Streamlining a Supply Chain and a Core Carrier Program

Posted on 11 February 2013
Streamlining a Supply Chain and a Core Carrier Program

Core carrier programs are primarily introduced when businesses are looking for efficient ways to improve their transport and supply chain operations. Too many transport companies making deliveries to the same site means longer queues, additional administration and multiple relationships to manage. These are some of the complaints made by busy businesses wanting to streamline their supply chain operations. Condensing the number of transport companies and vehicles operating to and from your business can eliminate these complaints and help improve your supply chain effectiveness.

Mainfreight offer a range of services to businesses wanting to control many aspects of their supply chain. Our online technology allows customers a complete and transparent view into our system to know exactly when and where freight is being picked up and delivered. Data visibility and accuracy are critical to streamlining supply chain services between you and your suppliers or customers.

Executing a Core Carrier Program

Bunnings is the leading retailer of home improvement and outdoor living products in Australia and New Zealand and a major supplier to project builders, commercial tradespeople and the housing industry alike, with over 1500 suppliers delivering into a network of over 250 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand. To help them deliver great products at the lowest prices Bunnings Warehouse needed to develop a solution to relieve congestion issues in their Goods Inwards caused by queues of trucks from multiple transport companies.

Streamlining your supply chain
Looking to improve the efficiencies of their goods inwards areas in each store, Bunnings created a Core Carrier Program (CCP), allowing their suppliers to choose from a number of transport carriers to deliver into their stores. Mainfreight were selected by Bunnings as a transport and logistics provider in the Core Carrier Program (CCP) in August 2011.

Core Carrier Program – Bunnings

Mainfreight has worked hard to create strong partnerships with a growing number of Bunnings suppliers. The results brought on by the program mean reduced vehicle congestion, improved efficiency in the goods inwards area and have assisted store productivity.

More and more Bunnings suppliers are converting to the core carrier program and taking advantage of Mainfreight’s supply chain services. We have time slot co-ordinators in each branch to ensure we meet the strict Bunnings delivery windows set for all store locations. With our nationwide network of branches, we meet all freight needs to any postcode in Australia.
